Isooctanoic acid is a colorless, slightly odorous liquid. Flammable, slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and ether, slightly soluble in ethanol. It can be used as an intermediate in paint and coating driers, as an alkyd resin modifier, as a catalyst for the production of peroxides as a catalyst for polymerization reactions (eg PE), and as a stabilizer for lubricating oil esters and PVC.
